Does Intersouth have a geographic preference for its investments?
Intersouth invests primarily in the corridor between Baltimore and Florida, with a focus on the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. Only under special circumstances do we consider an investment outside our targeted geography, and it typically is not in a lead role.

In what industries does Intersouth invest?
Intersouth is focused on the life science and technology sectors. Life science includes biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, agricultural biotechnology and biomaterials companies. We will consider most software, semiconductor, communications and security companies in the technology area.

Does Intersouth prefer a particular stage of investing?
Intersouth provides seed and early-stage financing and prefers to be the lead investor in the first institutional round.

What deals will Intersouth not consider?
Intersouth does not review deals in industries outside of our stated focus, which is life science and technology companies. Specifically, we do not consider deals in the following industries: airline, apparel, broadcasting, consumer product, energy, entertainment, environmental, industrial, manufacturing, oil & gas, publishing, real estate or restaurant.

What types of investments does Intersouth make?
Intersouth makes only equity investments.

What is the average size of each investment?
Our preference is to participate in the first institutional round of a company with an initial investment between $500,000 and $5 million. We also take a leadership role in subsequent financings, planning for an average total investment in a single company of up to $12 million through all rounds of financing.

How do I submit a business plan to Intersouth?

How long will it take to get a response after submitting a business plan?
Please allow approximately two weeks for us to respond to your submission.

If Intersouth is interested in my idea, what should I expect?
Once we become interested, someone from Intersouth will contact you by phone to discuss your business plan in more detail. Should we continue to be interested, we will arrange an in-person meeting with one or more members of our investment team, during which you can present your plan and answer questions. At that point, Intersouth would request information to begin the due diligence process. Due diligence and additional meetings including all Intersouth partners take place before any decision to invest is made.

What can be expected during the due diligence process?
Intersouth will investigate the various assumptions of the business plan including management reference checks, market assessment and financial modeling.

What role does Intersouth play after the investment is complete?
Intersouth aligns its objectives for long-term capital growth with those of our entrepreneurs. We add value to our portfolio companies by working closely with management as a trusted ally. With more than two decades of experience in private company financings and several serial entrepreneurs among our partnership, we clearly understand the challenges entrepreneurs face and work to help our management teams build exceptional companies.

Does Intersouth always ask for a board seat?
As a significant investor, Intersouth prefers to play an active role on a portfolio company's board of directors.

Will Intersouth sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?
It is the policy of Intersouth Partners not to sign NDAs. We receive hundreds of business plans each month, making it impractical to be a party to so many different contracts. Intersouth takes every measure to ensure the confidentiality of each plan submitted. We have built a respected reputation over the past 20+ years and take great pride in our integrity.

How many business plans does Intersouth review each year?
We review more than 2,000 opportunities each year.

How many investments does Intersouth make each year?
Intersouth makes approximately eight to 10 new investments each year.
