Richard Kent joins Intersouth Partners as Venture Partner

Intersouth Partners, a venture capital firm focused on the Southeast, has named pharmaceutical industry veteran Richard Kent a venture partner.

Kent was previously president and chief executive of Serenex Inc., an Intersouth portfolio company acquired by Pfizer Inc. in April 2008. Prior to his work at Serenex, he served as CEO of Ardent Pharmaceuticals Inc., another venture-backed start-up company. He has also held senior positions at GlaxoSmithKline, GlaxoWellcome and Burroughs Wellcome.

With the addition of Kent, the total number of Intersouth investment professionals grows to 12.

Founded in 1985, Intersouth Partners manages $780 million in seven venture capital limited partnerships. The Durham, N.C.-based firm focuses on seed and early-stage technology and life sciences companies.
