Chief Financial Officer

Kay Burgess

Kay Burgess has over 30 years experience in a variety of roles in finance and administration.  Since 2012, she has served as Intersouth’s Chief Financial Officer.

 

From 2009 to 2012, she served as the Chief Financial Officer for Consert Inc., a thought and action leader in the design and implementation of intelligent energy distribution and management networks. During her tenure with Consert, the company raised $18 million with strategic investors (GE, QualComm, Verizon and Constellation Energy) and signed a multi-million dollar contract with CPS Energy in San Antonio, Texas.  Ms. Burgess led the company’s relocation to San Antonio in 2011.

 

From October 1997 to June 2008, as a partner in Tatum, LLC, she served as CFO or Co-CFO in a variety of industries. Ms. Burgess has particular expertise with the financial systems and processes required for the growth and success of technology companies

 

In March 2005, Ms. Burgess joined Accipiter Solutions, Inc. as the company's Chief Financial Officer.  She was subsequently also appointed Chief Operating Officer of the on-line ad management technology company. During her tenure the company grew its hosted revenue by 200% and its hosted ad volume by 800%. In December 2006, Accipiter was acquired by Seattle-based aQuantive. In August 2007, aQuantive was acquired by Microsoft in a deal that was Microsoft's largest acquisition to date.  Ms. Burgess served in the Publisher Solutions and Business Development Group within Microsoft Advertising from the time of acquisition until January 2009.

 

Prior to joining Accipiter, Ms. Burgess served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer for Peopleclick, a market-leading provider of web-based human resources software and services. During her four-year tenure the company closed Series B and C rounds of funding totaling $23.5 million led by a tier-one venture capital firm; completed five successful acquisitions; secured debt financing with a $300 billion international bank; grew revenue from $1.6 million to $42 million annually; became profitable and cash flow positive.

 

Prior to joining Tatum CFO Partners, Ms. Burgess directed the finance, accounting and treasury functions for Premier Health Alliance, Inc., a healthcare purchasing, consulting, and management alliance providing services to more than 1,700 teaching and community hospitals in the United States and Canada. Prior to joining Premier, Ms. Burgess was part of the original team that developed the financial organization for Discover Card and Sears Payment Systems, start-up subsidiaries of Sears Roebuck in Chicago.

 

Ms. Burgess began her career at KMG Main Hurdman, Chicago (which became KPMG Peat Marwick through merger). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business with a concentration in accounting from Indiana University. She is an Illinois Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPA's and the Illinois CPA Society.


In her free time, Ms. Burgess served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 210 in Cary for 10 years, treasurer of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cary for 6 years, secretary of the Board of Directors of the Central Carolina Chapter of Indiana University Alumni Association, treasurer of the Board of Directors of Food Runners Collaborative in Raleigh, NC, Senior Warden of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cary and is past President of Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum.  She currently serves as Scoutmaster of the newly-formed Scouts BSA Troop 210G in Cary and Chair of the Endowment Committee for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary.
